Machine Shop


A single source for fabrication, machining, welding, balancing, plating,
and finishing. Schulz has the capability to repair an old part or overhaul a
well worn machine, as well as manufacturing a new part from either parts
or prints.

Our machine shop includes:

  • Series I Bridgeport/Digital Read-Outs Vertical Milling Machines
  • Cronatron Flame Spraying Process
  • TIG, MIG, ARC, Rotary Welding
  • 3" Boring Mill/Rotary Table/Digital Read-Out
  • 7 Lathes ranging up to a 72" swing with a 22’ bed

Flamespray

  • Applicator: Cronatron Cryospray Torch
    Gas Used: Oxy & Acet.
    In-House or On-The-Road
  • Material we can build up:
    Aluminum (Cryospray 505)
    Aluminum Bronze (Cryospray 835) RB 65-75
    Stainless (Cryospray 845) RB 80-85
    Nickel-Cromium (Cryosray 885) RC 32-37
    Nickel Base (Cryospray 865) RB 75-83

    Note:* Reg. Hardness of a shaft is about RC 24-26
  • Can build up to .250 with a base build of 835 &
    Cap of the last .080 (total) of any given spray

  The shaft in the video below was received with excessive run out. 
 The Schulz machine shop flame sprayed and re-machined it to bring it back into tolerance.  
This video was taken during the cool down process following flame spraying.

  • Up to 18’ long
    (Including turning commutators & undercutting)
  • Also capable of turning & undercutting in place

  • Stubbing of a shaft, modify frame sizes

Lathes in Shop

  • 21" Harrison with 9’ bed
  • 18" Harrison with 8’ bed
  • 36" LeBlonde with 12’ bed
  • 72" Zerbst with 18’ bed

Milling

  • Able to cut keyways in shafts.
  • 2 Bridgeport Milling Machines
  • 1 Boring Mill able to check concentricity of Babbitt fits
    to bore of irons
  • Also able to cut keys in couplings up to 1 1/2" wide
