Vertical Test Stand

Schulz Electric's vertical test stand is capable of absorbing up to 8,000 lb-ft of torque at continuous load rating (max 1500 hp @ 800 rpm). Schulz can also develop speed torque curves and perform locked rotor testing utilizing this vertical test stand.

Schulz Electric's test bed, engineered for 100,000lbs, was specifically designed for large vertical motors. In response to increasing customer demands, Schulz had the test bed designed, professionally installed and precision leveled so that we can better meet your needs, and exceed your expectations. As seen to the right, the test bed features 2 hole sizes to accommodate various sized vertical motors. The test bed was set on a bed of steel pads anchored in high-tensile (5000 PSI) concrete, bolted down and grouted, during the Christmas/New Year's holiday period of 2005/2006. This time period was chosen to avoid any delays in the final testing of work in progress.

EQ Harsh Environment System 

Schulz Electric offers environmentally qualified form and random wound insulation systems for rewinding harsh environment EQ motors, or for incorporation with new motors. The 4.2kV insulation systems is qualified for use in harsh environments outside containment that may be exposed to a MSLB/HELB with peak temperatures of us to 395 degrees F at peak pressures of up to 70 psig. The 600V system is qualified for inside containment LOCA conditions with peak temperatures of 425 degrees F and 77 psig. The 600V system is available for intermittent duty motors (MOV).

Schulz Electric Radiation Workers have undergone training and have all passed written examinations. Routine monitoring for radioactive contamination is performed throughout the entire facility. Along with the Radiation Safety Officer, trained radiation workers receive and survey incoming motors that may potentially be contaminated.

Schulz Electric truly is a single source for your contaminated motor needs. Not only is Schulz the preferred safety-related motor repair facility in the industry, Schulz now offers an in-house decontamination facility.

Gone are the days of utilizing several different companies for your engineering, repair and decontamination services. Schulz Electric spent over a year planning, designing, building and developing procedures to provide you with a new state of the art decontamination facility right here at our New Haven, Connecticut facility.

Schulz Electric is NRC licensed to decontaminate motors to unconditional free-release status. Schulz Electric Radiation Workers have undergone training and have all passed a written examination.

Vertical Motor Test Bed

As seen above, the test bed features 2 hole sizes to accommodate various sized vertical motors. The test bed was set on a bed of steel pads anchored in high-tensile (5000 PSI) concrete, bolted down and grouted, during the Christmas/New Year's holiday period of 2005/2006. Condensate collected in the catch tank is pumped through a fi lter and a mixed-resin bed to a holding tank. This tank will be sampled periodically, and if it meets the radiological release criteria is sent to the building wastewater holding tank.
Schulz Electric's decontamination facility is a 1650-ft2 restricted area where licensed material is received and decontaminated. Two thirds of this restricted area is the Decontamination Area. One third of the restricted area is a radiologically clean transition, storage, and dress area. All walls in the Decontamination Area are sheathed in 20 foot high stainless steel. Decontamination in this area will be accomplished by steam cleaning or by a cryogenic cleaning system.
Located insided the Decon Area is a 10-foot by 10-foot steel grid Decon Pad, on which motors are placed during steam cleaning. Underneath is a catch tank approximately 8 inches deep.
A HEPA fi ltered ventilation system takes suction on the Decontamination Area and discharges 85% of the fi ltered air back into the clean dress area. The remaining 15% of the fi ltered air is discharged to the environment. The discharge stack is equipped with an isokinetic probe, in-line air sampler to collect a representative sample of discharged air.
Air discharges will be held to less than the concentrations listed in 10CFR20 Appendix B, Table 2, Column 1. Records of all discharges of licensed material to air is maintained. The HEPA ventilation system runs, at a minimum, suring sandblasting operations or when other dry decontamination methods are in use.
